PILLARS OF SUSTAINABILITY

Environmental     .     Social    .   Economic

We are responsible for investing in programs that improve
people’s well-being and overall development.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Costa Palmas is a resort that focuses on environmental conservation.

We operate under strict rules and in full compliance with development standards. Moreover, the project will build 60% fewer rooms than initially approved, significantly reducing resource consumption and waste generation.

We have environmental programs in place, conduct monitoring studies, and apply mitigation and compensation measures to prevent, reduce or mitigate environmental impact. Additionally, we invest in conservation programs to preserve
native plant and animal species.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUPERVISION PROGRAMS

  • To supervise the proper application of mitigation efforts implemented for the “Costa Palmas Tourism Development” project as requested by the environmental authorities throughout the different stages of its execution.
  • New measures are proposed, as necessary, in response to unexpected impacts, in order to ensure that the environment will not be significantly affected.
  • Actions are taken in favor of protecting and maintaining the balance of the environmental system.

  • Contributed to creating new micro ecosystems where local fish and birds, such as herons, coexist. This is achieved by protecting water bodies and conservation areas.
  • Artificial dunes and estuaries have been created to protect and stabilize healthy beaches.
  • A beach certification program was completed by working with municipal authorities to ensure beaches are appropriately cared for and maintained.
  • Trees have been planted at the La Ribera Clinic.

SOCIAL

Costa Palmas’ objective is to collaborate with the community and the public and private sectors to further the socio-economic development of the East Cape through various collaboration programs.

To date, more than 20 initiatives have been implemented to promote education, well-being, and culture, in addition to assisting in the care and protection of the environment while increasing the community’s productivity. Moreover, we have invested more than 30 million pesos in sustainability initiatives for the development and social well-being of the five thousand inhabitants of the East Cape, comprised of La Ribera, Santa Cruz, Las Cuevas, Santiago, Miraflores, Buenavista, and Los Barriles, as well as San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

LEARN, GROW, EAT & GO!

This program seeks to improve the health and well-being of children, their families, and the community through actions that combine nutrition elements, cultivation of urban gardens, and physical activities, as well as preparing and tasting their harvest all of which contribute to their comprehensive development and encourage entrepreneurship at a young age. This initiative began in 2016 and, since then, more than 150 children between the ages of 8 and 11 years have participated annually.

HORTICULTURE PROGRAM

This program encourages young people to grow their own food and fosters entrepreneurship at a young age by providing guidance to sell their produce. Since 2016, more than 150 students between the ages of 11 and 15 have participated in each school year.

COSTA PALMAS GRANTS PROGRAM

This program provides economic support to young people who are interested in pursuing a higher education not available to them in the communities of the East Cape region.

Since 2019, Costa Palmas has supported more than 15 high school and university students. This has been possible through our collaboration with EAST CAPE GUILD A.C. (https://eastcapeguild.com), a nonprofit association based in Los Barriles, B.C.S., that has provided grants to young students from this region for over 20 years.

We have supported athletes of all levels of competition with in-kind donations such as sports clothing and equipment, plane tickets, and accommodation.

ACTIVE SUMMER COURSE LA RIBERA 2018

We have organized a summer course every year since 2018, in coordination with the local Cultural Center, where around 100 children aged 5-11 from La Ribera and the surrounding communities participate. In this 3-week course, the children engage in sports, cultural activities, and environmental awareness actions. They also volunteer time to aid the community with the assistance of their parents and members of the Costa Palmas family.

PICKLEBALL ACADEMY

Since 2018 we promote the practice of both conventional and new sports, such as Pickleball. Starting with the teaching of this sport to more than 100 people, including girls and boys, youth and adults. In addition, sports equipment has been donated to different clubs in the town.
