To preserve traditions and celebrate La Ribera’s vibrant cultural identity, the XIV Los Cabos City Council, chaired by Oscar Leggs Castro, put together an exciting itinerary of festivities for all to enjoy the course of four action-packed days in August. La Ribera 2022 Traditional Festivities took place Friday, August 12 through Monday, August 15, offering citizens sports activities, horseback riding, and artistic and cultural events. Costa Palmas was thrilled to be involved in these fun and important celebrations through donations, participation, and support.
On Friday, August 12, Fundación Costa Palmas provided a wonderful live music band (Baile con Grupo Culpable & Banda La Positiva de Misael García) for entertainment during the event’s inauguration ceremony, during which the queen and princess of the La Ribera 2022 Traditional Festivities were coronated. Sinahi I was named Queen and Abigail I received the honor of Princess. Congratulations to them both!.
The festival’s much-anticipated fishing tournament took place the following day. Fundación Costa Palmas donated 200 official shirts and 200 stylish buffs to the event, which was spearheaded by Easul Valdez, a local fisherman of La Ribera and the winner of multiple fishing tournaments.
65 teams total participated in the tournament, each with 5 team members. The competitors were mostly local fishermen and those from nearby communities. Among the attendees were: Carlos Castro, representative of the Governor; Juan Javier García Davis who coordinates FONMAR (Trust Fund for the Protection of Marine Resources) fishing tournament; Brenda Judith Castillo Holmos, who coordinates the regulation, inspection, and surveillance of Los Cabos; Miguel Mijares, a delegate of La Ribera; Oscar Manrique, a delegate of Santa Cruz; and Noemi Rosiles of the Fundación Costa Palmas..
The Cazadora team, from La Ribera, took first place in the Blue Marlin category, catching a 250-pound fish. In second place was the Misioneros team with a 162-pound fish. In the Dorado category, the Vagos team caught a 43-pound fish. The Boteteros del Sur team caught a fish at 82 pounds in the Tuna category..
A Fish Machaca tournament also took place on Saturday on La Ribera beach. Both Adrián Amador, Costa Palmas Beach Club Souf Chef, and Luis Lázaro, a Four Seasons Resort Chef and expert on fish, were included as judges.
This fun celebration was another demonstration of how the Fundación Costa Palmas is dedicated to continuously supporting the La Ribera community and its people. We look forward to being involved as part of future festivals.
