It was all about the children when Fundación Costa Palmas joined the National System for Integral Family Development (DIF) in organizing festivities for el Día del Niño, a lively celebration that took place in La Ribera on Sunday, April 29th. There was nothing but laughter and smiles as children enjoyed many different games, crafts, and performances—including a highly animated clown who wowed the crowd by juggling fire.
The theme of the day was Mario Brothers, as evidenced by the coordinating colors of the lovely and high-spirited decor. Families spent time together having their faces painted, playing with piñatas, and enjoying each other’s company. 15 of these beautifully hand-crafted piñatas were donated to the communities of Santiago, La Ribera, and Cabo Pulmo by Fundación Costa Palmas. Each piñata was a one-of-a-kind piece created by a local artisan from Santiago.
One of the most exciting parts of the day was the raffle, wherein many gifts were given to the kids, including bicycles and a few other incredible toys and supplies, all donated by Fundación Costa Palmas and the municipality.
In conjunction with La Ribera’s festivities, Fundación Costa Palmas also organized a small gathering for the nearby neighborhood of Cabo Pulmo, which was held in the local school. Kids enjoyed candy, piñatas, corndogs, and juice amidst this lively community event.
Authorities that attended included the Delegate of La Ribera, Miguel Mijares, the President of DIF, Angélica Ojeda, and the Director of DIF, Alejandra Castro.
Families and volunteers alike came away from el Día del Niño feeling fulfilled and refreshed; there is nothing more satisfying than supporting communities, especially children. Their smiles and cheer were enough to make the whole day more than worth it—and to plan to do it again as soon as possible.
